Why We Do It!

Our Reason
At the Calgary Sledge Hockey Association (CSHA), we believe that everyone, regardless of ability, age, or background, deserves the opportunity to experience the joy and benefits of sport. Our mission is to promote and support sledge hockey for athletes of all abilities, helping them progress both on and off the ice. We do this because we understand the power of sport to build confidence, foster community, and create lasting change.
Our programs are designed to be inclusive, providing a welcoming environment for individuals with physical or mental disabilities. We believe that by making sledge hockey accessible to all, we can break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and offer a platform for athletes to thrive.
From our "Try It" events, which introduce newcomers to the sport, to hosting the largest minor sledge hockey tournament in Western Canada, our work is driven by a passion to support each athlete’s journey, no matter where they start. By organizing tournaments, skill-building events, and community activities, we create a space where athletes can grow, connect, and find support.
Ultimately, we do it because we believe in the transformative power of sport to build a more inclusive, supportive, and connected community—where everyone has the chance to participate, excel, and enjoy the game.
